Started in 1911, John H. Hampshire, Inc. is a pioneer in the construction industry with a sound reputation for quality interior and exterior construction in the Mid-Atlantic area. Specialties include Plaster, including ornamental and stucco; Flooring, including wood, vinyl and composite flooring, and carpet; Drywall, including light-gauge framing; Acoustical ceilings and Exterior Finishing Systems. The company was started by its founder, John Hampshire, as a plastering contractor working on jobs in the Baltimore area. Since then, the company has evolved into one of the largest interior finishes subcontractors in the area.
Hampshire is guided by Charles (Chip) Fry, President (31 years with the company), and Steve Crist, Vice-president (22 years). 13 of the office employees have been with the firm for over 10 years.
The company has completed projects as far south as Florida and as far north as Connecticut but serves mainly Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Some of the more notable buildings include the: Meyeroff Symphony Hall, Baltimore; Christopher Columbus Center, Baltimore; Library of Congress - James Madison Building, Washington, D.C.; Federal Reserve Bank Building - Richmond, Va. and Holocaust Memorial Museum - Washington, D.C.
In 2001& 2002, Hampshire was involved in numerous projects with total revenue of over $35 million. Project size varied from $1,000 to over $7,000,000. Some of the projects include: Bancroft Hall Renovation, at the U.S. Naval Academy; Social Security Annex Renovation - Baltimore, Md; U.S. Botanical Garden Renovation - Washington, D.C.;Juvenile Justice Center - Baltimore, Md.; Lyndwood Executive Center - Laurel, Md.; Main Treasury Renovation - Wasington, D.C. and The United Carpenters Building - Washington, D.C.

Hampshire is also an Armstrong World Industries Inner Circle Contractor.
Hampshire has received many awards for quality over the years. The most recent was a Washington Building Congress craftsmanship award for work at the Kennedy Center Renovation, Phase II. One award went to our foreman. Another award went to Jim Pryor, a craftsman, for the Soccer Facility at the Naval Academy.
